I keep a Battery Tender on my Odyessy battery and it failed at 7 years. If it's not your battery, this could be your voltage regulator. Mine started to fail at about 650 hours. Similar symptoms to yours.
I'm leaning towards the battery to. I would at least rule it out and it's time for a fresh battery. I'm leaning this way instead of the VR because it happens on startup, only last a few seconds and then everything else is fine after that initial start. I personally don't care to wait until a battery is just dead.

Thanks Roger, you make a good point. I'd hate to have the battery fail when I'm at one of the remote back country strips I frequent. Time to bite the bullet. If the issue persists, would you think the VR would be the next place to look?
