I need to replace the push-on electrical connectors at the ends of my EGT leads -- the existing connectors are just too intermittent. Can I slightly (@ 1/2 inch?) shorten these EGT leads without causing any problems? My existing EGT is: Rotax EGT Sensor, K-type P/N 100405-001 Rev K. Thanks!
Had to shorten one EGT-cable by approx. an inch recently to get rid of a mal connection (broken wire) giving useless readings recently and it definitely made no difference (beside the desired effect that the reading got good again). Since thermocouples generate a smal voltage (not current) as a function of temp, there will be some mesurable effect when cut down in great lengths on one sensor only.
However, since we measure in the range of 800 C it won't matter really. Plus, the displayed value is more like an indication than an absolute figure equal to "the ultimate truth". Savvy published a good article on that some time ago, in case your are interested... Mike Busch explains that better than I can.
Regards
Peter
