Hi. I have a stripped spark plug hole. Is that repairable? Someone must have overtightened it. It screws in all the way and will tighten to about 5 ft lbs and then stripped.
I take it we are talking about a 912 engine?
You might save it with a spark plug thread chaser. This is not your standard tap. It is meant for spark plug threads. Some have Helicoiled the hole in an experimental and this isn't recommended. The head really should be replaced. This is where the manuals help people that don't know torques. Plugs in the 912 are 177 in/lbs.
Plugs should come out and go in easily by hand. Never use a pneumatic or electric tool. If they bind stop what you are doing and use a plug thread chaser to clean up the threads. Forcing plugs in or out will trash the threads.
