912s, very low time, motor glider flying 17,500 or so, throttle advance to full followed by rpm smoothly dropping to around 4000 or so, backed off throttle, checked fuel pressure, activated fuel pump, advanced to full throttle again, rpm rises then drops again, didn't try max power again until much lower, could not repeat symptom. I should have pulled up the engine page on the Dynon and observed egt's, anyone know what is going on?
My first thought is, What fuel are you using, 100LL I hope? I would pull the carb bowls and check for debris. This is easy and only takes a few minutes. At 17.5K you have lost about 53% of your engine power. What is your WOT rpm let's say at 14K and above? You may not have enough HP/torque to turn the prop at it's current pitch setting at those altitudes.
Look at these and you'll see how easy it is to check the carb bowls.
