If you have another person about 1 - 1.3 hours. If you are by yourself about 2.5 -3 hours.

I pull engines on Flight Design aircraft for hose change. It takes me a helper about 1 hour, but both are experienced..

Hi Jan,

It took my friend and I about 3 hours to remove the engine from a Eurostar. A lot of the time was taken to work out what could be left on the airframe and what had to go with the engine. Having done it the once I could probably half the time now.

I spent a while making up a suitable crate to support the engine when it was removed. I also used this to ship it to the engine technician.

I assume that installing the ROTAX again will also take roughly 3 hrs.

Installation took longer. It was much more difficult to do things like: line up the engine mounts to get the bolts in, route the pipes, cables and exhaust. I would strongly recommend taking photos of everything before you remove the engine. The positioning of some of the coolant hoses proved critical in getting the radiator to line up with the mounting holes in the cowling. Routing of the oil hoses was also important to keep them away from hot/sharp parts.

Be careful with tacho and generator electrical connections when you remove the engine. These need to be disconnected to allow the engine to be separated from the airframe.

Good luck! You know that as soon as you remove it there will be perfect flying weather for weeks ;-)

Yes Kevin you are all right: Murphy's law dictates that it will be perfect flying whether when I separate the ROTAX from the fuselage. :(
