Hello everyone! I have an early 80hp 912 with just over 600 hours on it! I was having oil pressure swings at high rpm so I figured I would upgrade to the bullet style pressure bypass. At 5000 rpm it would run between 50 psi to 60 psi and spike close to 70 psi. I installed the new bullet with a new spring and new plug. I did not add the washer! I also run 20w 50 oil in this engine. Today I ran my first test in the air and I will say that the pressure swing is less! Only problem is it raised my oil pressure to a constant 60 to 70 psi! I am under the impression that 70psi is max psi limit? Any thoughts on how to lower my oil pressure? Or is this fine and should not worry about it? My only thought is to possibly change oil viscosity to lower my pressures? One last bit of info is that todays oil temps were about 220 degrees when it was running at 60-70 psi.
Maybe it is a malfunctioning oil pressure sending unit especially if it is engine mounted and has been damaged by engine vibration. I ended up remote mounting mine to the firewall.
I think when it comes to replacing the sender its a worth it to put a new one on! The added bonus is they dont cost that much any ways! Secondly it looks like when to comes to oil pressure the new info out there states more like 100 psi is max so maybe this is not that big of a deal as I first thought!
I was using 20W50 and my engine was running at near 70psi (5 bar) all the time. On cold days it started near 95 (7bar) and took a long time to warm and get down to 70.
Now I use 10W30 and the pressure on cold start doesnt go over 75 (5.5bar), and normal operation is near 55 (4bar).
20-50w is a little heavy for the average user. 10-40w will cover everyone's needs.
Are you using a motorcycle oil with 10-30w? If not you should only be using a motorcycle oil and one that has enough ZDDP to protect the metal parts and gears.
Remember that Aero Shell Sport Plus 4 was specifically designed with the Rotax in mind with some extensive testing. If you can't get it then make sure the motorcycle clue oil you use is a good quality. They are not all equal.
