Every time I shut down my 912uls, I get a loud screech as the propeller comes to a stop, seemingly from the gearbox area. I have 200 hours, run mostly 100LL. I've noticed this consistently since the engine was new. My gearbox friction torque has always been well in spec at annual. Running an IVO medium ground adjust. Anybody else experience this phenomenon?
The loud squeak you hear happens on many 912's. Not something to worry about so long as the gearbox friction check is good and there are no signs or symptoms of other issues.

Does anyone know exactly what is causing the screech? It is certainly a metal to metal contact, but from what? Is it the clutch, the Belleville washers? Like you say, some engines are worse that others...............Tom
Thanks Rob. I went to the heavy service manual, and parts catalog to identify the parts that you mentioned. I think I got it right, but that area should be full of oil! The squeak indicated to me that something is dry. Not sure I understand that...........Tom
yes it has a fair amount of oil in that area, not full, only up to the exit holes at the same level as the magnetic plug.
normally the dogs are pretty much on the driven side but when you shut down the crank stops and the prop wants to keep going so they travel the entire 30 degrees and hit the rear side of the ramps. this is when you get the squeak.
What oil are you using?
