Sooty plugs are not normal. Should be clean and light tan color on insulators. If sooty plugs, I'd drop the carb needles down one notch; takes 15 min/carb to do. Engine appears to be running too rich which is why it got rough when warm.
Lean it down and I'll bet problem disappears.

Hi Marlin, was this problem ever resolved? What was the solution? I have very similar problem and hoping to find a solution.
