Rotax 914 Engine at 5800rpm in excess of 5 minutes

Good day.

I am no engine expert.
My question is...
What happens to your engine if you run it at 5800rpm for more than 5 minutes? A friend of mine has accidently done it for about 15 minutes once only.

Hi Danie,

Hopefully nothing happened. There is some safety margin there and the engine is quite durable so he should be okay (hopefully) and there is a special check in the manual if you exceed rpm limits.

Why did he exceed the limit for so long?
