Hello to all. I am new to this forum as well as being new to being a Rotax owner so I apologize in advance if my questions have been addressed elsewhere on this forum. I just recently purchased a 2006 Sportstar with the 912 ULS and have noticed some small drops of oil leaking from what appears to be around the bottom of a couple of the valve covers. I was wondering what the tension(torque?) should be on these gaskets and thought I would post before going ahead and tightening them? Any advice would be appreciated or should they just be replaced? It's in the Heavy maint. Manual. 12nm or 105 in/lbs. if you have to 115in/lbs can be tried without any problems. I have found some valve covers that just refuse to quit oozing. Doesn't really drip, but oozes and drives me crazy. So here are a few things to try;
First re-torque them when cold, install new "O" rings, apply a little smear of Loctite 598 on the "O" rings and or remove the cover and place a sheet of 360 sandpaper on a very flat surface and do a figure 8 pattern with the valve cover to remove any high spots or uneven spots. Don't get overly carried away with the sandpaper and sand it down too far. Just smooth the outer surface.

Terry, check if it's not a leak from the pipes under the head (pushroads covers). It's common problem with leak from place where pipe is going into head.
Make sure that there is a small gap between the covers of adjacent cylinder when they are torqued up. The torque for the M6 allen bolt is only 10Nm, over-torquing may make your problem worse if it distorts the cover.

I have had a look and cannot find the torque of 12Nm for the covers on the 912/914, its probably me not looking well enough, where is it documented? The IPC & HMM both specify 10Nm.
On the fuel injection engine the covers are 12Nm, but that doesn't mean the carb engine is the same... the heads are different.
If it is 12Nm does it apply to older rocker covers? and does it apply to the original heads with the different rocker shaft support?
