Magnetic Plug replacement

I replaced the magnetic plug on my 912 uls today. It was the Torx style and had been stripped. I used a Vermont American #4 extractor, seating it with a 12 point 3/8 inch socket and extension. The engine had been warmed up in preparation for an oil change and I used a shot of contact cleaner on the plug to cool it down. It took a fair amount of torque to break it loose and I have replaced it with a new 16mm hex head magnetic plug.

    I just cut a slot in the head with a Dremel tool with a cut off blade then use a large flat tip screwdriver. Have someone put some torque on it and then tap the edge of the old Torx style with large flat tip drift punch. Pops right out.


    p.s.
    Don't cut so deep you cut into the crankcase.


    I use this technique for almost all screws any more. It's quick and easy.
