I just spent about 8 hours flying with a 914. I asked the owner why they were running 100LL verses mo/auto gas and they said they need 95 octane which is hard to find and that the manufacturer suggests 100LL. HUH.... I checked the POH from the manufacturer and it said to use what ever ROTAX recommended. In the 914 Operators manual page 2-7, as I suspected, ROTAX recommends mo/auto gas at RON 95 and min AKI 91. I noticed the rating is the same for the 912S and the 914. This 95 is confusing... Is the 95 was some European standard and the 91 was the US octane rating. What is the US minimum octane rating for the 914 and is auto gas better as ROTAX recommends?
