Just cleaned and inspected the carbs on my 912ULS--700 hours. Had problem with the right carb needle valve sealing. Finally got it to seal electric fuel pump pressure. While rechecking everything, noticed that the floats weighed 10 grams. My engine serial # is before the ones in the float SB. What should the floats weigh? SB-65 says over 7 grams is bad. Never had problems before.
I have seen issues with floats getting heavy on engines from as early as 2010, so prior to the SB as well. Back then we didn't weigh them we just looked to see if the pin was level with the surface of the fuel.
I'm with Conrad.
In earlier years we just looked at the pins verses the fuel level. Now we have a whole new tool. With this new knowledge we may find as an ownership more bad floats because we may find them before they really sink and become a bigger problem. It's a wait and see.
