This is the device I use. Although it did not stop the leakage entirely, it was reduced to the point that it is not a problem and still allows the joint to move.

Leaking knuckles...I have tried Permatex High Temp RTV gasket, as recommened. It worked for a while but it blew out and leaks even more. As I see it, I should not make the knuckles solid. The springs are there for a reason? If the knuckles are solid something else is going to crack and break. Right? Or are the springs there for the ease of removal? Maybe the high temp lube is the best and easiest. The muffler is attached to the engine by the 4 exhaust pipes and moves with the engine. Any more suggestions?

Hi Andy,

Many times it is an alignment problem between the male and female joint. I subtle shift in alignment can help them seat better. If you disassemble them you should lube them with some copper anti seize and that may also help the seating process some. If all else fails put a wrap or two of header wrap cloth around the knuckle with a clamp to prevent any small blow by from affecting other near by parts. Try aligning first with the anti seize.
