Fuel tanks

I am aware that there is interconnection between the fuel tanks such that given time each should equal the other. The question I have is when parked how long should it take for them to equalize?

I have noticed that sometimes after sitting in the hanger they may be 4 gallons difference, yet at other times they are the same.

WHat should the condition be?

Hi Scott,

Several variables here. I see this all the time and we talk about things like this on the CTflier forum. Here are the variables. Floors in hangars and ramps are not always as level as you may think. Fuel hose between tanks may be 3/8", 5'16" or 1/4". The fuel difference between tanks may only be three gals verse 10 gals which may give a tad better head pressure. Some have made a hard landing which tweaked a gear leg and one wing may be down a little lower than the other, but not enough to notice with the eye. Measure the wing tips and see if yours are equal. Add all these up or just 1-2 and fuel transfer from one wing to the other can be affected. Of course this all depends if your fuel valve is open between wings or your fuel circuit is open between wings.
