Sprag clutch

What could be the cause of the sprag clutch going bad on a 912 uls with 285 hrs?

    Rotating the prop backwards, too many kickbacks on start-up and too many long hard starts (maybe with the old starter, black case). These are the more common culprits.

    Thanks, I have a friend who had to have his replaced. My engine has about 200 hrs on it, so I was curious to know what causes the problem.
