Hi l am rebuilding my 912ul can l put new hydraulic lifters into the engine with out doing anything to the camshaft ,l was told that you cant put new lifters in unless you re temper the camshaft lobs.
cheers Geoff.
You do not need to do anything to the lifters or the cam lobes. Make sure they are well lubricated, follow the Heavy Maint. And do a really good oil purge.. My question would have to be is what lead you to suspect a lifter and so long as it is moving in and out freely it should have been okay. Was it scored or grooved? What oil are you using? Rotax says replace them all, but you could get away with pairs. You need to at least do the intake and exhaust on the same cylinder. How much 100LL do you use?
I'm a little curious on the symptoms for the lifter change?

Hi Roger this is the engine with the broken and missing oil ring that l spoke to you about in the topic, How can l tell the age of my engine..
This engine was in the Zenith ch 701 l purchased so l have flown with it yet the previous only used Mogas.
When l striped the engine l noticed that the lifter wasn't as free as the rest l cleaned it and oiled it still not as smooth as the rest there is no scoring on it so l was going to replace them all ,
but l was told that l would have to retemper the camshaft lobes if l dont l will have camshaft failure that is why l have asked the question to find out the truth so many people have different ideas so l will the Rotax experts.
cheers Geoff.
