Coolant hose from expansion tank to cyl #3

Hi,

Is it ok to use the same straight 17mm hose between the expansion tank and cylinder number 3 as for the other cylinders or will the tighter bend radius restrict flow?

    Hi Harri,

    Over the years Rotax has switched hose a time or two. The newest of the coolant hose does flex and kink quite easy. Several aircraft Mfg's change the expansion tanks position from behind the carb cross over tube to in front and they also turn the tank so different tank outlets feed different cyl. from the Rotax factory setup. Many of us and aircraft Mfg's put springs inside the hose where it bends. You then can make a hose bend 180 degrees and it won't kink. The outside diameter for the spring is 11/16" for the 17mm coolant hose. Use a compression spring about 3"- 3.5" long and you want it to flex fairy easy. You don't want it hard to bend as we only need it to support the walls of the hose.

    Hi Roger,

    Thanks for your help. A spring inside the hose sounds like a good idea. On the Ikarus C42 all other hoses are fine but the one going from the tank to cylinder #3 will kink a bit so I will try to find a suitable spring. I am using 17mm Gates auto master heater hose from a car parts store.
