I wish to instal an oil thermastate. As I am disrupting the oil system I should be purging the system. Is there a procedure to do this other than pre heating the oil to above the thermastate opening temperature and using the standard procedure as listed in the service bulliten.

Hi, I put a thermostat on my 912ULS a couple of years ago . When the install was complete ,I never heated anything and followed the rotax purge instructions to the letter . There were no problems. The thermostat I used allows a small amount of oil to bypass when closed , so no need to get it to open to purge. I think allot are like that. I just looked up the oil thermostat in the engine technical log, it is made by Mocal . Hope this helps

Geoff,
Kevin is right. Even when the thermostat is closed, a small amount of oil is bypassed. I did as Kevin did and performed the standard purge routine with no problems and no preheat. Mine is a Thermostasis but they all work basically the same way.
