Choke Shaft position

I am rebuilding the carbs on my 912ULS and the markings on my choke shaft are not as described in either the Rotax video or the Heavy Maintenance manual. On the outside end there are two stamped Â dots located equidistant from the axis of the shaft. This is the 2/4 carb. At the other end of the shaft there some indistinguishable markings. Is there another way to determine the correct positioning of the shaft?

Hi Mike,

Are you saying you have a punched dot in the metal on each end of the choke shaft?
Use the outside dot and it should point to the tube end of the choke or toward the air intake side of the carb.

Thanks for the reply Roger. The outside end of the shaft has two dots. However, as I disassembled the carb I took photos and using those I was able to see where the dots were. See attached photo. The inside end of the shaft has some symbols I can't decipher but they are not L or R.

Never seen one with two dots. If you go to chapter 73 of the heavy maintenance manual, fig. 73-27, It shows how the shaft fits in relation to the rotary disc and the choke lever. If you assemble it like the illustration, one dot will point toward the cable end of the choke lever. To avoid future confusion, you could just file off or fill in the other dot.

I must have gotten it right because after a little tweaking the engine ran fine after re-installing 2/4 carb this morning. The 1/3 carb has one punch mark on the outside and "L" on the inside. It's now disassembled on the bench.
