I´m redoing my panel and so I have to use other gauges for the CHT.
I´m wondering now which type the original installed probes in the cylinderheads are
(j-type or k-type?)
I use the J type on mine. Both will work just fine within the temp range of the Rotax CHT. The only difference in the J and K is the temp. range, which is wider with the K. You might also check the compatibility with your instrument, but most instruments support both J and K. I removed the probe type that came with the engine and used it for a coolant temp. probe. Replaced it with a ring type sensor (10mm I think) and a brass bolt. Works great. double checked all temp readings and they are dead on. Only reason I switched was that I needed a coolant probe and had some extra ring types in the shop.
thank you for your reply!
I want to keep the gauge that now shows the CHT on CH 3 and connect it with
a new probe for the coolant.
As I dont know what the old gauge is compatible with I dont know which new probe to buy.
So I asked for the typ of the probe the old gauge shows good readings with.
(Sorry for my bad English  )!
Sounds like you are on the right track. The Rotax CHT probe can be used as a coolant probe. Actually, it is a coolant probe. It just goes into a cavity in the cyl. head instead of directly into the coolant. When you get the new probe, you can make sure it is compatible by hooking it up to the instrument and putting the end of the probe in a pot of boiling water. If it reads 212F or 100C on your instrument, its compatible. What is the brand of your old instrument?
