Could be just a weak battery. Try to boost it first. If the engine speed at cranking is not high enough (250 RPM crankshaft, 100 RPM prop) the power into the module will bleed off and not fire the spark plugs. Visual references are not enough unless you can use a prop tack to check your crank speed. If you only get 90 RPM at the prop then you know it will not fire.
There are aviation versions, least expensive are for RC aircraft.
