582 bearing clearance test

I have reviewed many reports on the value of conducting periodic bearing clearance tests on 582 engines. I am interesting in hearing from the 2 stroke community concerning individual experiences and whether or not this test is a valid predictor of future engine performance and/or failure.

    Follow the maintenance schedule and all service bulletin's and service instructions as set out by the factory. If you are going to work on a ROTAX engine it is also highly recommend that you attend a Rotax maintenance and service course.

    Also to help answer your question, bearing corrosion is more of a concern over periodic bearing clearance tests, as not much bearing wear occur during 300 hours of operation. Anything over 300 hours the crankshafts and bearings need to be replaced.

    I have one of those bearing testers...very accurate...but it has been said that one the bearing start to wear the rate of wear can rise rapidly.

    So not the answer you want I know.
