Re: What pitch to use on a 582 3 blade 68" Kiev 2.58 gearbox

I double and triple checked it yesterday, but wouldn't setting it to 360 make the RPMS higher, not lower? I am trying to find someone with an optical tach today to verify, but it occurs to me that 3400 * 2 is 6800 and am wondering if it is only firing once per revolution instead of two...or the tach labeling is wrong. Have you ever heard of a 582 that only fires once per revolution per cylinder? The original tach, which was wired into the lighting circuit was reading awfully high and I had attributed it to the engine swap...but maybe not. I am hoping, that if this was true that I haven't done any damage to the engine, since I was would have been doing the first warm up at closer to 4000 instead of 2000. The investigation continues.

Well, verified the tach. I had to back the prop back down to a 3 to make RPMs, but have it in the 6400 - 6500 RPM range now. The Kiev instructions suggested a starting point of 2-4 for a 503 and 11-14 for a 582. Think I will go do the break in on the 582 now and maybe I can get ahold of the prop guys and the engine guy to figure out exactly what this means. I am afraid that it means that my "new" 582 is making closer to 50HP instead of 64, but we shall see.
