green gunk blocked balancing tubes

my 582 silver has been playing up and than an engine out. I noticed green greasy gunk at the ends of the carbie's balancing tubes, I cleaned it out and the engine runs fine, does anyone know what that green substance is and maybe how to avoid it?

Walter,

When you say balance tube, I think you're referring to the vent tube that goes from one side of the carburetor to the other side and has a few holes in it. That is a vent line for the fuel float bowls, if your vent is clogged the fuel level in the float bowls will be erratic and cause the engine to run poorly.

The green greasy gunk is more than likely residual 2-stroke oil that has built up and if you have that much build up I would strongly suggest overhauling the carburetors using a sonic cleaner to get all of that gunk out of there.

I have removed the gunk, didn't realise it was blocked, sure makes it run smooth, they were both blocked I wonder if it could cause an engine out?
it's only done 9 hours
