582 Faulty CHT

I purchased a low time (30 hrs) PPC that has a Rotax 582, Blue Head. All seems swell except I'm getting a false low reading for both CHTs. Average temps run in the mid 60's to mid 70's, appropriately increasing and decreasing with power applications. According to the Holy Book of Rotax, "Normal" CHT should be in the 230 to 270 range, with max being 300. Both CHTs are constantly within a few degrees of each other and all other engine instruments seem to be within the normal ranges.

I don't even know where the sensors are located and I can't find much info on adjustments or repairs. I use a Grand Rapids EIS for instrumentation.

Anyone know if it's something I can adjust? If so how?

    Met up with another PPC guy this morning and took a look at his 582. He's got the CHT probes that fit around the spark plugs, something that I obviously don't have on mine.

    Now, I have to solve the mystery of how and where to buy them and more importantly how to wire them in. Anyone know where I can find some guidance on this as well?

    Meanwhile I'll continue to research.

    Over here in the UK we have these things...I'm sure you have RS over in the States....thinking of getting some to stick on my 503 as my temp gauge always reads cool which bothers me....sensors under the spark plugs on both my cylinders.

    May not be as easy to use them on my fan cooled 503 as it will on your 582...access to my heads is not good.

    In flight my CHT reads around 140c rotax say normal is between 180 and 220c...should I worry I wonder???

    Thanks Gents for your comments. I was about to delete this post due to the fact that I found out that I actually didn't have CHT probes installed. I ordered them yesterday.

    My next obstical,figuring out how to wire them into my Engine Istrument panel.

    Guys,
    The Rotax operation guidance refers to the CHT temperature range. However is there a difference in between reading the CHT using a probe or the one that rounded the spark plug? Are both refer to the same limitation?
    (The probe way is much penetrated inside the block ..)
