503 Oil Injection Pump Drive Gear/Shaft

What is the general consensus on when to replace this plastic drive shaft? How durable are they? Replace it at what interval? This is something that, in my mind anyway, is better to be replaced BEFORE it breaks, if you know what I mean!

Bob,

I've never seen one break, but it's only about eighteen bucks and easy to replace on the 503, providing you can get to the end of the engine without much trouble.
