Checking compression on Rotax 582

Appendix D of FAR 43 says the internal compression of the engine must be checked.

Never having done this before, is there documentation somewhere that explains how to do a compression check?

    I just did my first annual inspection on my 582, I too haven't seen or read any specific guidance on how to properly do a compression check on a 2 stroke engine. I bought a cheap, harbor freight compression kit and did my own check but came up with entirely different reading from the previous annual. Not sure if it's the gauge, method or technique used by me or the last guy. Any guidance would be helpful.

    What's an average compression reading for a 582?
