Thanks for the feedback. Do you know if we can convert to fuel injection, and if so, what improvement we could expect?

Ken,
Technically, it is possible to convert to fuel injection. It would be a complicated and expensive conversion however, and I doubt that any improvements in fuel consumption or HP would be worth the money spent. I know of no kits or instructions to convert this engine. There was one forum member a while back who did his own fuel injection conversion on a 912 before Rotax came out with their own 912 FI. It was an amazing job. Very professional.

Irrespective of carbs or injection, if your engine is getting the correct fuel then that's it.
It's all good !!!
Aerodynamic streamlining of your aircraft and reduction of weight would the best attempt for greater efficiency.

thanks for that. What about the use of variable pitch props? I presently use the helix 3 blade prop.

Ken,
A ground adjustable prop is definitely an asset to any 2 cycle engine. It allows you to extract all the available horsepower from smaller engines. In flight adjustable props are expensive, add weight to the aircraft, and with low power engines can exceed the engine's power curve at cruise when pitch is added. I doubt you would see enough improvement, if any, in fuel savings to justify the cost.
If your machine is part 103 legal, you can only have a five gallon tank. Although it is illegal, I know many who use a temporary, removable ferry tank for cross country trips. I'm not recommending this; I'm just saying.
