Don,
The article you should read on the CPS site is #17 "reworking the parts". I have replaced several using this method. I didn't use the rotax tool though. I used a standard claw type puller with a lead plug in the crank end to protect it and heated the bad bearing with a torch before pulling.

I had a quick look through my files to see if I could help as i try to keep pdf's of the 447 & 912 Rotax instructions, but though the 912 Heavy Maintenance Manual is there, there isn't anything for the two-strokes. The nearest thing I could find mentioned, in Rotax own list of manuals, is RM503. Which I don't have, sorry.
However Googling got me to the UK Rotax Agent's site which offered for £30 but no index of its contents ?:

Experience shown that small sized crankshaft will be better to replace, but oversized crankshaft will be better to repair. It said about real economy material and other resources. Don't even go there. If I was you I would bite the bullet and buy a new crankshaft, if there is the slightest mark on the bearing bores in the crankcase, I would buy a short motor.
Rotax recommend that you don't dis assemble the crank shaft and after some one doing one for me about 22 years ago, I would agree with them. If it was a motor cycle crankshaft, it would be a different story.
There can be small pieces of metal from the bearings embedded anywhere in the engine.
I would say you need a new, short motor.
