If the engine was preserved properly, it may be OK. fifteen years is a long time and you should pay particular attention to all rubber parts in the engine. Crankshaft oil seals could be a problem and you could have crank bearing and piston pin bearing corrosion. It really should be disassembled and new seals installed and bearings inspected. If you do to break it in as is, the break in sequence is still the same and should be adhered to. If you use Pennzoil, be sure and use the oil for aircooled 2 cycle engines, not the marine type 2 cycle oil.

I'm with Bill.
Replace all the rubber components. You don't want to start this and possibly ruin a good engine. Time breaks down all rubber. It isn't always and many times not the wear that kills the rubber, but time just sitting. It is easier on rubber parts to be run on at least a semi regular basis.

Thanks, I had most the head bolts out to make & mount the muffler brackets so I removed heads to inspect and there was no sign of any rust, looked like it was built yesterday. Can you recommend where to buy the seals? I will obtain then tear down to inspect. ------rick

Several places to shop. California power systems (airwolf) usually has any parts you need. Also Lockwood aviation or leading edge airfoils (leaf). All of them sell genuine rotax spares.

Rick are you experienced at working on these seemingly simply engines....lots of special tools req to strip them down...prob a lot cheaper to get a shop to take it to bits and save $$$$$ buying them yourself,

I did consider myself a component mechanic after years of stripping and re-building auto engines...but there where lots of things I needed to brush up on before I would let myself loose on my 503.
