Has anyone had any experiance with expansion chambers on a 582.I use to build them for 2 stroke
dirt and road bikes back in the seventies. Made a huge difference to power and fuel economy
The standerd pipes appear to leave a lot of room for improvement?
Yes they can gain power for sure, however there is no free lunch here. The trade off will be more high RPM peak power with a noticeable loss of mid range or cruising torque. Just like a pipe on a motocross bike the powerband becomes very peaky and non linear. Not what you want for an airplane that might get behind the power curve on a go around. The other issue is jetting and fuel consumption. Unless you are very good at jetting and willing to change often as temps change I would not recommend it. Many years of 2 stroke experience speaking here and I've been there and done it. Leave it stock and enjoy the reliability and wide powerband for a 2 stroke that is.
