Hi a rotax 582 blue top is using 10 litres an hour more than it should there are no fuel leaks the spark plugs are as black as on both cylinders it idles rough carbs are balanced any suggestions

Hi Gerry,
Either your carbs aren't controlling the fuel flow and they need work or you have too much fuel pressure or both.

Air filter maybe needs a service...how long have you owned it....has it only just gone like this....incorrect jetting or needle setting....choke/enricher cables incorrectly set....any recent work been done to the carbs,
What max rpm is it making....far to course a pitch on the prop can make it run rich.

Thanks for the replies
I think I have got rid of the over fueling problem well most of it any way
I stiil have rhe problem of an intermittent miss through various stages of the rev range its not a constant miss just irregular
Prop pitch is good
carbs balanced correct jetting correct level in fuel bowls floats ok
air cleaner serviced both coils working new plugs gapped and fittedand correct plugs,, no change
thinking electrical but not sure what
any ideas please

What was the prob with the fuelling then.....is this engine new to you or have you owed it for some time.

main jet needle set too high
